Events Cover Letter
Thank you for considering the Rane Nogales Jazz Ensemble as part of your special evening. We have enjoyed our status as one of the first call and most popular Black Tie Event bands in the region and hope that we can help make your evening wonderful and marvelous as well.
The RNJE is a high end, professional, after-dinner, ballroom dance band that, as a quintet or full ballroom orchestra (depending on the event budget) specializes in a sophisticated top floor presentation of contemporary and jazz standards. Whether a full ballroom presentation with a full orchestra and multiple singers or as a jazz quintet featuring horns and vocals, for background, dance or show, this band can be counted on to play the most appropriate choice of music for all formal and semi formal affairs. Although a concert and performance band first, the RNJE has made black tie events the bands specialty and has a stellar reputation as one of the regions first call bands for formal functions. The line up in the RNJE is outstanding, boasting some of the best jazz musicians in the region, several of whom tour internationally and are often seen at Jazz Alley.
Included in this package are:
A complimentary copy of the bands recently released CD
A partial song list
A rate sheet
A sample contract
Please call with any questions or ideas youd like to discuss or email inquiries to ranenogales@msn.com. You can also visit our website, at http://www.ranenogales.com which, although currently under construction, gives additional information about the band. Thank you once again for considering the music of the Rane Nogales Jazz Ensemble for your Black Tie Affair.

Rate Sheet
Rane Nogales Jazz Ensemble
Rate Sheet Winter Season 2003-2004
Full Ballroom Orchestra Full horn section, full rhythm section, and multiple vocal soloists. Unbeatable for posh affairs hosting a ballroom dance to cap off the evening. Can easily be preceded by a smaller version of the band for the cocktail and dinner sets.
Duet Piano and vocals. Appropriately sedate & rich, for cocktails, dinner, background.
Trio Vocals, upright bass, piano. Charming, soft, romantic presentation, suitable for light dancing, also excellent for cocktails, dinner, background and show.
Quartet Vocals, upright bass, piano, drums. This is an excellent small show or dance band. Very entertaining, smooth, swinging, sophisticated and sexy. Excellent for show, after dinner dance, reception.
Quintet Vocals, upright bass, piano, drums, saxophone/clarinet. This is a top notch, sophisticated, romantic after dinner dance band that can be as out front or in the background as the situation calls for. This band was the house band at the lovely Majestic Hotel in Anacortes for four years and is well known for being highly compelling, lively, a great dance or show band with a sizzling swing. This quintet is a first call band for many well known hotels and resorts for corporate and private functions and is asked back year after year to play the holiday and seasonal events.
RATES Bellingham/Anacortes/Seattle/Tacoma/Portland
Duet $350.00 Trio - $525.00
Quartet - $700.00 Quintet - $875.00
Ballroom Orchestra (Our premium show!) $1,600.00 2000.00
Prices include cocktail hour, reception, after dinner and dance as long as total time does not exceed 4 hours, unless otherwise negotiated.
Ceremonial and Wedding Music
For weddings, should ceremonial music be required, please add $150.00 per player to total cost of band. Seating, bridal march and exit music will be performed by pianist with, in some cases, bass and flute accompaniment.
The band will work with the bride and groom or coordinators to recommend and prepare the required music. If songs other than the standard classical wedding tunes are required, its possible that arrangements may be necessary. If arrangements are necessary there may also be a separate fee for the arranger.
Rehearsal fees are $150.00 per player. A good way to save money here is to have only the pianist attend the rehearsal. In most cases, this will suffice perfectly and if not, well be sure to advise.
The band is glad to provide the sound system for toasting and short speeches.

Rate Sheet Addendum
Rane Nogales Jazz Ensemble
Our best role is one in which we do it all, from reception to after dinner dance...
Many events are comprised of a reception, a dinner and an after dinner dance. The Rane Nogales Jazz Ensemble is a group of highly professional jazz musicians that can easily collect in appropriate parts for ceremonies, receptions and dinners, and finally collect as a quintet or full orchestra, for the after dinner dance.
Reception
Trio or quartet with piano and bass, drums and some vocals provides an elegant introduction to the evenings affair. Staying primarily with easy Latin type arrangements (i.e. Girl From Ipanema, Corcovado, Summer Samba, Flamingo, etc), our goal is to underlay the atmosphere with the classic, inviting ambiance of an afternoon or early evening party.
Dinner
During dinner, we provide a subtle background music that may be piano only, or may include other instrumentalists like flute or upright bass. Typically, we do not use saxophone, drums or vocals during dinner. Our goal is to provide an elegant and sophisticated backdrop to dinner and support the idea that something very special is taking place.
After Dinner Ballroom Dance
During dinner, the rest of our ensemble will have arrived and quietly set their stands and instruments in place. Once dinner is complete, we kick the evening back into gear with a lively dance band format. Whether we finish the evening as a quintet or as a full orchestra, well play everything from up-tempo swing tunes to ballads for slow dancing, waltzes, foxtrots and sambas. Well play familiar pieces like The Shadow of Your Smile, The Look of Love, It Had to Be You, Paper Moon, In the Mood. If we are playing the dance as an orchestra, you and your guests will experience the thrill of a full horn section, dynamic soloists and multiple singers. If we play the after dinner dance as a quintet, you and your guests will be treated to the sizzling, sultry, swinging dance tunes of an ace performance band.
Either way, we cover the bases with a smooth set of performances that will set the appropriate tone for each phase of your evening and leave your guests talking about your party for years to come.
Rates depend on the overall length of the event, and the choice between quintet and full orchestra for the after dinner dance but will range between $1000.00 & $2,000.00 for the entire event.

Review Excerpts
Review Excerpts
for Rane Nogales Jazz Quartet
A Ruby for Magic
The latest offering from Bellinghams own jazz siren, Rane Nogales, and her fabulous threesome of musicians, is called A Ruby for Magic. And magic is indeed the mood of this ten-track emotional hotbed of sound
The CD is slow, thick and rich
The talent here is not trying to seduce the listeners-it just does it without trying as jazz often does.
Nogales heartbreak and loneliness is believable, evident and painfully wonderful in each track
This theme of love lost, missed and the romance-addicted infliction that is universal, spills forward onto each track.
Tessa M. Allison
Every Other Weekly
November 2002
A pre-release review of Rane Nogales Quartet's "A Ruby for Magic":
Rane has a poignant, sensitive voice, a bluesy voice
very much, her own stylist
mellow, romantic, passionate
The singer leaves ample space for the instrumentalists to stretch out and show their stuff -- and great stuff, it is. Jeff Johnson truly makes his bass sing during solos, while Blake Angelos, on piano, shows remarkable intonation and timing. Listening to this quartet, one can readily sense the negotiation happening..
Lyle Hanson
The Lynden Eagle
August 2002
Nogales is a jazz-singer
of a different sort. She sounds best the less she's there
quiet and sultry are her pillars, rather than loud and bawdy. Softer arid readings of standards such as "Mood Indigo" and "Skylark" are silky smooth, bettered by each airy crackle
