Whether jazz or original music, the Rane Nogales Jazz Quartet is well known for creating a rich blend of sounds in a romantic, ultra-lounge, hot summer night style of jazz.
“definitely night music”
With hundreds jazz standards in the repertoire and some of the finest musicians in the region in the line-up, the Rane Nogales Jazz Quartet is a sophisticated performance band. Held over for months and even years as the house band at some of the regions hottest spots the band has become an icon of the local jazz scene in the Pacific Northwest.
The band has produced two commercial CD's -
A Ruby for Magic, is a collection of jazz standards with Jeff Johnson on upright bass, Blake Angelos on piano and Byron Vannoy on drums.
“magic is indeed the mood of this emotional hotbed of sound” (Every Other Weekly)
“very much, her own stylist…mellow, romantic, passionate…takes the listener on a magic carpet ride.. one can readily sense the negotiation happening, the art creating and the whole group having fun (Lyle Hanson)
Sleepin' With the Dogs, with Bill MacDonough on piano and guitar, Mark Huber on harmonica, tenor and soprano sax and guitar, Jeff Johnson on upright bass and Dale Fanning on drums is a compilation of seven originals and one cover.
“if anyone has come close to reaching the elusive ideal of originality, it is Rane Nogales …[her songs are]simple in context…stated in a way only the best of poets speak. Whether they are performing Circumstance, a torchlight song such as Vagary or the more sophisticated upbeat jazz tune Dark Eyes, these veteran musicians are stellar. For instance the rhythms throughout Circumstance are uniquely challenging: you cannot simply consign them to background. The dovetail spinoffs from drums to guitar to bass to harmonica to vocals are excellent!” (Martin Nichols host of About Jazz on KUGS FM in Bellingham)
“..same sense of sophistication permeates Nogales' new “Sleepin' With the Dogs” CD… this is recording that reeks of romance” (Wayne Ellis Every Other Weekly)
